I shifted to Hyderabad from the US last year with my 2 sons and we are always trying to find something new to do on the weekends.

Just last weekend I rented a car and took them to Chowmallah Palace and the Nizam's museum. Chowmallah was very nice, entrance for the 3 of us with camera cost 95 rps. The grounds were very well maintained, and a nice place to sit under a tree or near the fountain to relax. The hall with the chandeliers was amazing. There was also a room with pictures of just the wives of the Nizams which I was seeing for the first time, the pictures of Princess Niloufer and her sister were really beautiful.

After spending about an hour and a half there, we went to the Nizam's museum in Purani Haveli. We were the only visitors there so we had the luxury of hiring a personal guide named Hyder who walked us thru the entire exhibit. He did a wonderful job keeping the kids entertained and interested while telling us about the breathtaking pieces that once belonged to the Nizams.

The huge wardrobe was really a shocker for us, as well as his pure silver and gold cradle and gold and diamond tiffin box, which my younger son compared with his plastic Ben10 tiffin box, lol. At the end of the tour which lasted about an hour I tipped our guide 100rps and it was well worth it.

We had been out for about 3 hours by this time so then I took the boys to KFC in Somajiguda for some traditional American fried chicken...it was a perfect day for us as we were able to blend both east and west :)
